9 & 8. Steel Dragon 2000 & Fury 325 (95 mph)

At numbers 9 and 8 we find the first shared place on the list of 10 fastest roller coasters in the world. The Steel Dragon 2000 at Nagashima Spa Land in Japan and the Fury 325 at Carowinds in the city of Charlotte of the U.S.A. Both roller coasters and the number 10 are the only 3 non-launched roller coasters in this list.

Steel Dragon 2000 (95 mph)

The special feature of the Steel Dragon 2000 is not only its high speed. It is the longest roller coaster in the world! The climb to the highest point alone takes almost 2 minutes! After getting this altitude you will be dropped down and you will speed up and down several times with great speed. The top speed is achieved at the first descents. The Steel Dragon 2000 is a steel roller coaster built by D. H. Morgan Manufacturing. In the year, you guessed it, 2000.

Shorter than its equally rapid companion Fury 325 first climbs to an even higher point. After the almost vertical fall the roller coaster knows how to keep its speed because the track is relatively horizontal. The ride is a bit shorter than his speed partner, but the average speed is a lot higher! The Carowinds park has 13 roller coasters! The Fury 325 is the most extreme rollercoaster of the park with flying colors. It was built in 2015 by Bolliger & Mabillard.

7 & 6. Tower of Terror 2 & Superman: Escape From Krypton (100 mph)

Both roller coasters were built in the same time by the same builder. They look very similar and therefore have to share the 6th place of the 10 fastest roller coasters in the world!

Tower of Terror 2 (100 mph)

The Tower of Terror 2 is a steel shuttle roller coaster in Dreamworld amusement park in the town Gold Coast in Australia. When this speed tower opened in 1997, he was the first roller coaster to reach the 100 mile per hour limit! This made him the fastest and highest roller coaster in the world. The Tower of Terror 2 is slightly different from a normal roller coaster. You are launched backwards and at that moment you reach the top speed. Then you go up until the speed is gone and you find yourself at a height of over 100 meters! Then let the runway forward you back to the station. The Tower of Terror 2 is built by Intamin.

Superman: Escape from Krypton (100 mph)

The Superman: Escape from Krypton in Six Flags Magic Mountains in Valencia U.S.A. is also a steel shuttle roller coaster just like the Tower of Terror 2 and thus looks more like a launched free fall tower. But it is really a roller coaster so hence a place in this list. Superman: Escape from Krypton are actually 2 roller coasters, because it is also a duelcoaster! Also the Superman: Escape from Krypton is built by Intamin.

5. Do-Dodonpa (110 mph)

Yes, the Do-Dodonpa, in the Japanese Fuji-Q Highland, has the ability to get 120 miles per hour. That would have placed him on a shared number 3 of the world’s fastest roller coasters. But the rubber tires did not seem to be able to handle these speeds. So unfortunately for the Japanese, the engineers have limited it at 110 miles per hour. Yet a reasonable speed and good for a number 5 in the list of fastest roller coasters in the world! After an incredibly fast tunneling, the roller coaster goes over a long straight track with tremendous speed! This is the great thing about this roller coaster because in this way he keeps his speed. Also, the Do-Dodonpa is the only rollercoaster in this list with a looping! The course opened in 2001 and took two records, the fastest roller coaster and the fastest acceleration. The Do-Dodonpa has been built by S & S Worldwide.

4. Red Force (112 Mph)

Red Force is a steel-launched roller coaster in Ferrari Land, Salou in Spain. This makes him the highest and fastest roller coaster in Europe. After a launch you reach the maximum speed and follow the vertical climb and then a vertical descent. The roller coaster is still relatively young, built in 2017 by Intamin Ag. It is actually a smaller and slower version of the Kingda Ka. It’s Europe’s only roller coaster in this list.

Like the Kingda Ka and Red Force you will be launched and follow a vertical climb and descent. The Top Thrill Dragster was built in 2003 and then took the records for the highest and fastest roller coaster in the world. He was built by Intamin. 2. Kingda Ka (128 mph)

For 5 years, the Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, USA. was the fastest roller coaster in the world. During the opening in 2005, he took this title off the Top Thrill Dragster, which is about 8 miles per hour slower. In the Kingda Ka you will be launched to the maximum speed in 3 and a half seconds! Sometimes very often, when the wind is just right, the Kingda Ka does not have enough speed to get over the top! Fortunately, the track is built on this and you just go backwards to the launch site, very very fast! Since the construction in 2005, the Kingda Ka has been in possession of the record: highest rollercoaster in the world! The Kinga Da was built by Intamin.

1. Formula Rossa (150 mph)

The fastest roller coaster in the world is the Formula Rossa in Abu Dhabi. The Formula Rossa goes 150 mph and all riders are required to wear protective glasses! You’re body will experience 1.7 g of force during acceleration and up to 4.8 g during the ride.

The Formula Rossa has been the captain of this list for 8 years. With enormous power you will be shot into the distance by a hydraulic system. This monstrously fast roller coaster can be found in Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi. Indeed, a park that bears this name must of course have the fastest roller coaster in the world! The great thing about this track is that the ride takes a lot longer than half a minute to one minute, as we often see in the top 5 of this list. The Formula Rossa is much more than just a launch, a steep descent and then back to the station. You just go through a complete track. However, he is a lot less high. It was built by, again, Intamin in 2010. Put on the safety glasses if you dare to do this!

Ring° Racer (99 mph)

The Ring ° Racer is a noteworthy roller coaster because it would be the number 8 of the list of fastest roller coasters in the world. Unfortunately, he is not operational at the moment. The Ring° Racer was built at the Race track the Nürburgring in Germany. It was intended that he would be opened there for the public and would reach a top speed of 135 miles per hour. That would have made him the fastest roller coaster in the world at that moment (2009) and the seconds fastest roller coaster in the world right now. But unfortunately there were problems with the pneumatic launch and the speed was reduced to 160 kilometers per hour. The acceleration speed was extremely fast. Namely from 0 to 160 in 1.6 seconds. The Ring° Racer only drove in 2009 with a select group. Then he was badly damaged by an explosion during a test drive. The public opening was then postponed to 2013. After an opening of only 4 days, the course closed for the winter season. The Nürburgring was sold in the upcoming winter. This new owner decided not to open the roller coaster because of the high operational costs. Looking for something nice in the backyard or just a nice present for a friend? The roller coaster has been on sale since 2015. The Ring° Racer was built by S & S power, a company that builds mainly gas-built attraction …
